Even though I’m the kind of woman who would pull a splinter out of my finger and save it for a later project, I’m also a clutterphobe who lives in a tiny 500 sq. ft apartment with limited storage space. That’s why, while I’m ashamed to admit it, I actually thought about discarding the tiny bits of navy silk I had leftover from my Chanel scarf refashion. But then I thought – are you mad, woman?! That scarf cost me a small fortune, so throwing those pieces out would be like throwing away dollar bills. For weeks, I tried to think of a little accessory that would do the lovely gold logo-emblazoned fabric justice and I think I finally found it my newest creation – this tiny glass bottle pendant. The bottle charm can actually be uncorked, which is how I filled it with a circle of the silk and a handful of tiny opalescent beads. This would be a cute way to display any other meaningful bits and baubles you might have that are too small to make into anything else. Enjoy!

You may have seen celebs rockin’ sassy tassel necklaces on the runways, and for good reason. They’re elegant, easy to throw on and totally in tune with the swinging 70s trend for this spring.

This particular tassel necklace has special significance because it is made from a very special silver grey tassel. During my F.I.T. days, the famous french perfumery Caron held a competition to design their storefront window for the annual Bridal march down Madison Avenue, and boy were my friends and I amazed when we found out our concept took first prize! Not really knowing what the heck we were doing (were we actually putting together a store window on Madison Ave.?! we wondered), we toiled for days perfecting everything in our window until it was exactly the vignette of romance we imagined it to be. On opening night, Caron held a cocktail reception honoring the new window and I still remember the feeling of getting a goodie bag (I’d never gotten one at a fancy party before!) and reaching in to find, amongst other trinkets, this silky tassel. So that I would never forget that feeling, I slipped a chain through it and wore it around my neck – and it still smells like Caron‘s signature scent.

Clossette Silver Grey Perfumed Tassle Necklace
Our winning Caron window. It was a vision of a bride and groom gazing into separate mirrors getting ready for their big day – while at the same time staring into one another’s eyes. Not bad for a couple of kids, eh?

HOW TO: Make a Barbie Doll Shoe Necklace

When I was a little girl, I used to love playing with my Likka-chan doll (a.k.a. Japanese Barbie), until I grew into a LEGO phase and kind of tossed her aside. I hadn’t thought of Licca for years until I was looking through my drawers and found this tiny pink shoe. I don’t remember if the shoe belonged to my doll (I have a vague memory of my sister giving it to me), but it reminded me of the kind of sensible footwear that Licca owned. I always thought it was interesting that unlike Barbie, Licca was small breasted and larger-footed with a much more anatomically correct frame. And though Licca comes in blonde versions too, my Licca was brunette and looked a lot more like me than Barbie ever would.

Anyways sorry for making you read all of this – I’ll get to the point now, which is basically that this little shoe gave me a little peek back into my childhood when all was right in the world and that’s why I wanted to cherish it and keep it close to me by turning it into a necklace. The steps are really easy and if perhaps you have a lone doll shoe that you want to turn into something you can wear as an adult or want to make one of these for a little girl – or boy for that matter! – read on for the instructions.

Being from Queens, NY, I’m no stranger to the name necklace. And after Carrie wore hers on Sex and the City, they started popping up on everyone from Beyonce to Christina Aguilera to Nicki Minaj (also a Queens girl – represent!). But with the price of gold what it is today, you might not want to pay an arm and a leg just for something to wear around your neck. I didn’t, which is why I made my own name necklace from my old Amex Gold card. Read on to see how easy it is!

When my boyfriend’s mom gave me an adorable teddy bear sweatshirt as a hand-me-down last year (thanks 어머니!), I brainstormed all different kinds of ways to wear it. But alas, the seasons came and went and I never could quite put together a perfect outfit with it. Not wanting it to go to waste, I decided to make it into something I’d been coveting for the breezier weather – a snood. For those of you who aren’t familiar with snoods, they basically look like cowls or infinity scarves and are cozy scarf alternatives. The following DIY shows you how to turn virtually any old hoodie into a snood that can we worn through the fall and winter. Enjoy!

Fuck Fur: Animal Friendship Bracelets Made from Human Hair

furry friendship bracelets, animal friendship bracelet, friendship bracelet diy, human hair jewelry, hair jewelry, hair bracelet, how to make a friendship bracelet, make jewelry out of your hair,

Remember those friendship bracelets we used to make for one another back in elementary school? These are a play on those except that instead of colorful thread, they’re made of human hair. And I guess they’re a bit naughtier too since they say “Fuck Fur,” but the idea of camaraderie – towards our furry friends – is still intact.

I initially played with the idea of making accessories out of my hair when I saw that one of my favorite designers, Victoria Bartlett, did it, so I waited patiently until it was time to get a haircut and chopped off an extra long strand at the nape of my neck. My thinking was that if we’re willing to wear the fur of other animals, why not our own?

What do you guys think about these human hair bracelets? Is this more disgusting than wearing fur?
