DIY: How to Turn Your Wallet into a Crossbody Purse

1. Open your Chanel wallet as if you were going to put some bills in and, using a pencil, mark off a point that is about 1/4-inch away from the halfway point inward from where the side wall of your wallet meets the front of your wallet, and about 1/4-inch down from the top of the side wall of the wallet (if this is confusing, check out the next couple of pics to get a better idea of where this point is). Then, carefully use a thick needle to create a hole at this point.

Please excuse my ashy hands throughout this DIY tutorial. Crafting is great fun but it doesn’t leave you much time to moisturize!

2. Then, using something slightly thicker than your needle (I used needle nose pliers), widen the hole you just created. The idea here is that you want to be able to stick your eyelet in but still have a snug fit.

3. Once you have a wide enough hole, stick your eyelet in with the ring facing outward (since we want the outer part to have a finished look).

  1. Thank you so much..I have the same red chanel wallet..and wanted to convert it into WOC but didnt know how to work on it..your post is very helpful in order to do that..I would like to know how did you make the chain?

    1. Thanks for your comments Sanni and Vids!

For the chain, I purchased some chain by the foot (if you’re located in NYC, you can find excellent choices around the 36th St and Broadway, or just search online), and then I found a strip of leather trim that was the same color as my bag. To assemble the chain, just thread your leather ribbon through the links of the chain and then secure at each end by sewing the ends. Hope this helps!

      1. Thanks Yuka. I will check out 36th St and Broadway..I live nearby. After reading uer blog O ordered one from amazon but didn’t like the finish and the red colour doesn’t match my clutch colour..Thanks again
