When I was a little girl, I used to love playing with my Likka-chan doll (a.k.a. Japanese Barbie), until I grew into a LEGO phase and kind of tossed her aside. I hadn’t thought of Licca for years until I was looking through my drawers and found this tiny pink shoe. I don’t remember if the shoe belonged to my doll (I have a vague memory of my sister giving it to me), but it reminded me of the kind of sensible footwear that Licca owned. I always thought it was interesting that unlike Barbie, Licca was small breasted and larger-footed with a much more anatomically correct frame. And though Licca comes in blonde versions too, my Licca was brunette and looked a lot more like me than Barbie ever would.
Anyways sorry for making you read all of this – I’ll get to the point now, which is basically that this little shoe gave me a little peek back into my childhood when all was right in the world and that’s why I wanted to cherish it and keep it close to me by turning it into a necklace.
