Almost every girl has a few too-big T-shirts in her closet, but instead of just wearing them to bed at night how about refashioning one into a cute tunic dress? I love this fashion DIY because it’s really easy to do and the resulting A-line dress is so easy to just throw on – especially for summer. The other great thing about this DIY is that if you have a tee with a graphic on it, you can even make your dress reversible so that you can wear it with the image in front for days you feel cheeky or wear the plain side in front on days when you’re feeling more serious.

DIY: Terrarium Nails How-To Tutorial

diy nail art, diy nails, yuka yoneda, terrarium nails, leaf nail art, clover nail art, nail art leaves, terrarium nail diy, clossettePlease ignore the ghastly condition of my cuticles. I garden and do crafts all the time so ’nuff said.

Terrariums and DIY nail art are two trends that I’ve been really excited about, so I thought it was high time for a mashup between the two. Okay, so the title of this DIY tutorial is admittedly a bit misleading. It’s not like you’re really growing living plants on your nails though I would applaud anyone who could actually do that, instead I’m going to show you how to take tiny leaves and stick them onto your nails for the really pretty effect you see above. Unlike the other beautiful nail art tutorials you might see on Pinterest, this terrarium nail how-to is something you can actually achieve and keep for at least a few days and the glassy sheen of the clear manicure creates a, well, polished look over the pressed leaves.

Babydoll shirts with all sorts of weird bunching and shirring used to be in style until we realized that they made everyone look equally preggers. So now there are a ton of these unflattering tops floating around unloved even though many of them still have nice, bold prints like the Marc Jacobs-esque large flower pattern on this one. If you’re the owner of one of these shirts and are not quite sure what to do with it, here’s a really easy, no-sew fashion DIY showing you how to turn an ugly babydoll shirt into a summer skirt just in time for the warm weather. I think you’ll really be surprised at how simple this tutorial is, and depending on the shirt you use, you can make the bottom into a skirt and the top into a cute bandeau.

DIY: How to Make a Retro Clutch Out of an Old Video Tape Box

I recently dug up this old Paula Abdul cardio dance video with the intention of burning some calories when I realized that A. I’m allergic to exercise and B. I no longer own a VCR. Downtrodden but not completely hopeless, I inspected the relic like an archaeologist and was impressed with both its uber-simplistic 90s colorblock design and the sturdiness of the box’s closing mechanism when it came to me – this could make a really unique DIY clutch. After all, the dimensions are pretty much spot-on and it’s just so wonderfully kitsch/nostalgic/ironic. And the beauty of it is that you can pretty much use any video box that you want for your own clutch (I highly doubt anyone else owns this Paula Abdul workout video or will admit to it?). Technically, you could even use the box as a clutch unmodified but I wanted to add a few touches to make it more obvious that it was an actual purse and not just a video that you’re carrying around.

Another really cool thing about this DIY is that if your video case is the kind with a transparent sleeve and piece of paper that slides in and out, you can swap out the graphic with whatever you want to make this a really versatile clutch. For example, if you have a piece of paper from another video – say The Breakfast Club – you can just remove Paula Abdul and slip that in instead. Or you can even leave the clear sleeve empty and use it as a white clutch. The possibilities are endless!

DIY Olympics Edition: How to Make a Sparkly Patriotic Flag Clutch Out of an Old Video Tape Case

The Olympics are in full swing, and in addition to watching the games, isn’t it so exciting to see folks donning all kinds of patriotic fashion from star-spangled outfits to union jack nails? I, too, wanted to show my support for team USA and team Japan but I didn’t want to end up buying random tsotchkes that I would only wear once, so I decided to recycle myself a DIY flag clutch out of an old video tape box. This DIY is uber easy (if you start now, you might even have it ready for the next event), and the best thing about it is that you can rep two different teams if your nationality is hyphenated like my own. When you’re at the pub rooting for team USA, just flash the American flag side and when it’s time for your other team to strut its stuff, just flip your clutch to show the other flag!

DIY: How to Make a Geometric Neon Bib Necklace to Add a Pop of Color to Your Wardrobe

So before I get into this DIY, I just want to make it perfectly clear that the design you see for this bib necklace is not my own. It’s actually inspired by the Andean Collection’s Honeycomb Necklace, which I’m absolutely in love with, and the only reason I decided to make my own version instead of purchasing one is that I wanted a particular colorway – neon pink with a spot of tangerine – that they didn’t offer. So I have to give credit where credit is due and lead you to their website if you like this necklace because they’re a company that not only creates striking modern pieces of jewelry, they do it in a way that helps women and men who need it. So purchase this necklace from them if you can!

OK, if, for some reason you’re still here after I said my piece, I’ll show you how I made my own DIY neon version of this bib necklace. Scroll down and click page 2 below for the full DIY tutorial.

Please excuse my Ashy Larry legs and beaten up TOMS wedges.

I’ve been rocking the black lace up leggings I got in Japan last summer for the past few days and noticed they’ve been creating quite a buzz – not necessarily all positive. Some people are intrigued by them, some baffled and a few girls have asked me where they can get a pair. Good question! I haven’t seen them outside of Japan – has anyone else? I guess like just about anything else in the world, they can probably be found on eBay, but if you want to refashion a pair of your old leggings and give them a little facelift, turning them into a pair of lace ups is the perfect beginner’s fashion DIY project.

YOU WILL NEED:

– pair of old leggings (3/4 length works best since part of your leg should be exposed to show the ribbon)
– long ribbons (I used two different kinds here to illustrate the crazy combos you can create but feel free to just use black leggings and black ribbon or whatever colors you like)
– scissors
– needle and thread
– pins
