You probably know Paula Abdul for her unforgettable pop hits (Opposites Attract is my personal fave) or for being one of the “nice” judges on American Idol and X Factor, but did you know that she’s also a vintage fashion aficionado? I recently got the chance to ask Paula if she would straight up now tell me why she loves vintage fashion and donating her preloved clothing instead of throwing it away. Read on to see what she said and get a peek at the adorable silk and cotton Abaeté dress I purchased right from her closet through one of my favorite new collaborative consumption sites, TheRealReal.
– Cream silk and striped cotton frock: By Abaeté (purchased from the closet of Paula Abdul via TheRealReal)
– Black leggings: A gift from Shin’s mom
– Burberry wedges: Secondhand
– DIY Chanel charm bracelet: Made using the December issue of Vogue
QUESTIONS FOR PAULA:
Clossette: What are your thoughts on vintage and pre-loved clothing?
Paula Abdul: I love vintage clothes –the prints, the shapes– they’re eternally classic, they always fit into the current style, no matter what the style is. I can always mix a vintage piece with something that’s in today & it works beautifully.
Clossette: Why did you decide to give your beautiful Abaeté dress to TheRealReal?
Paula Abdul: I’ve donated tons of shoes, jewelry & clothes to charity. I love that people can buy great pieces by high-end fashion designers, and the money they spend goes to a worthy cause.
